Crown Princess Mette-Marit at a gala in Canada November 2016
Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway gave a speech at the Canadian Museum of History on November 7, 2016. The museum is in Gatineau, Quebec. This event was hosted by the Ambassador to Canada from Norway, Anne Kari Ovind.
Heaven found this piece from the event on November 7, 2016. It is a glittery dress by Erdem.
Norway and Canada have a special connection as Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen was the first to traverse Canada's Northwest Passage. During The Crown Princess's speech, she said, "Roald Amundsen was ahead of his time in making use of the best knowledge available. And the knowledge he gained from the local Inuit people was crucial for his many expeditions."
She then added, “Indigenous peoples possess knowledge and experience worth listening to in many matters. Above all in the matter which is by far the most important for us today: The respect for life and Mother Earth. I hope we all can bear this in mind on this visit – as a common ground, a foundation, for all our bilateral cooperation.”
This was on day one of a 4-day Canadian trip with her husband Haakon that took them to Ontario, Quebec, and Newfoundland.
The day before their tour officially began, the Crown Princely Couple ate with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie. The Norwegian royal couple spoke with the Canadian and Norwegian press after the completion of their first official day where Crown Prince Haakon said about the dinner with the Prime Minister, "It was very nice to meet them. We have much in common, Canada and Norway, so there was plenty to talk about."
