Princess Marie of Denmark at her wedding
Princess Marie of Denmark wore a custom Arasa Morelli gown for her wedding to Prince Joachim on May 24, 2008, in Møgeltønder Church in Sonderjutland, Denmark. Arasa Morelli, a Spanish-Italian fashion house, had a Danish woman working for the company sew the dress. Marie also wore the Diamond Floral Tiara.
Marie converted from Roman Catholicism to the Church of Denmark before the marriage. This was Marie's first marriage, but Joachim's second.
Foreign royal guests at the wedding included Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, and Princess Martha Louise of Norway, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Prince Philippos, Princess Theodora, Princess Alexia, Prince Nikolaos (and wife Tatiana) (Joachim's first cousins), and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece (Joachim's maternal aunt),
Marie Agathe Odile Cavallier was born in Paris, France, on February 6, 1976. She met Prince Joachim of Denmark at a dinner party in 2002 but at the time he was still married to the then Princess Alexandra. However, by 2005 they reconnected and the rest is history.
Their engagement was announced in October of 2007 with Marie showing off her French-flag themed engagement ring.
The couple now has two children: Prince Henrik (born 2009) and Princess Athena (born 2012).
