Princess Madeleine's wedding gown
As Princess Madeleine and her family have recently announced they are moving back to the United States - Florida to be exact - we are taking a look back at her wedding gown from her 2013 wedding in Stockholm which cost an estimated 3 million kronor.
Princess Madeleine wore a custom Valentino gown for her nuptials. The gown featured appliquéd ivory-hued Chantilly lace with the upper half being an off the shoulder look. Lace was over the pleated silk organza on the lower half. Madeleine's train was four meters long, while her silk organza veil was five meters long. Tulle scatted with point d'esprit dots and small Chantilly lace orange blossom featured on the veil. Her Valentino weddings shoes featured ivory white organdie with woven point d'esprit dots.
What was not known until several years later, there was a problem with the gown on the morning of her wedding. She put it on, and it was too big! Her father was waiting in the hall as helpers hurriedly worked to get it to fit. This explains why the shoulders of her gown kept falling off. Her Royal Highness had lost so much weight that it caused a problem that morning.
Madeleine wore the Modern Fringe Tiara - a tiara she has traditionally worn on many occasions. At the base of the tiara, the Princess had sprigs of orange blossom. Her bouquet was full of white roses and lilies of the valley.
Madeleine and Chris greeted the large assembled crowd outside the chapel with a kiss on a stand decorated with several flowers that had been placed outside the Palace. They then took a carriage ride through the streets of Stockholm before boarding a boat to ride to Drottningholm Palace.
Ewa-Marie Rundquist was selected as the official photographer.
The couple held their reception at Drottningholm Palace. Unlike her siblings, the reception was not broadcast live. Their wedding cake was made up of a triangle shape of 700 macarons. She changed into a white strapless dress of her mother's as her wedding reception dress. It was a white Nina Ricci gown with a silk tie around the wast tied into a bow.
The wedding between Madeleine and American-British financier Christopher O'Neill took place on June 8, 2013, in the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Palace. It was broadcast live throughout Sweden on SVT, TV4 and TV4 News with Lars-Göran Lönnermark, Chief Court Chaplain of the Royal Court and Bishop Emeritus of Skara, and Michael Bjerkhagen, Vicar of the Royal Court officiating the dual language (Swedish and English) ceremony. Madeleine and her family spoke Swedish during the service, while Chris and his side spoke in English. "First Time I Ever Saw Your Face" was sung after they had been proclaimed man and wife.
As with her older sister, Crown Princess Victoria, Madeleine was escorted down the aisle halfway by her father, King Carl XVI Gustaf. She and Chris walked the rest of the way together. Swedish tradition was that the bride and groom walk down the aisle together, but Victoria at her 2010 wedding wanted her father to escort her. A compromise was made. The King walked his oldest child halfway down the aisle, and the other half, Daniel and Victoria walked together.
