Taking a look at Princess Sofia's wedding gown
For her wedding to Prince Carl Philip on June 13, 2015, then-Sofia Hellqvist chose the Swedish designer Ida Sjöstedt.
Her dress was reminiscent of then-Kate Middleton's gown in 2011 and Grace Kelly's in 1956. It had lace long sleeves with a dropped v in the front and back. It was made up of three different shades of white, crêpe in-silk and Italian organza. Lace designs featured down the front of the gown and on the train.
The gown was made in Sjöstedt's Stockholm studio and was hand cut and hand stitched. She also wore a hand-embroidered tulle veil with a small sprig of myrtle (tradition of Swedish royal brides since 1935). Sofia wore a new tiara with diamonds and emeralds on her wedding day - a gift from her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Queen Silvia and King Carl XVI Gustaf.
Bridesmaids (including Princess Estelle) wore custom gowns by the same designer. Sofia and her bridesmaids' bouquets were of cream and coral garden roses.
The wedding was broadcast live on SVT and took place in the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Palace - like Carl Philip's younger sister, Princess Madeleine's wedding two years prior.
Princess Sofia had a second wedding dress that she wore to her wedding reception at Stockholm Palace - dinner was in the White Sea Ballroom and dancing in Karl XI's Gallery. This white gown had a lace overlay with no train. It was one-shouldered (made of lace) on her right shoulder. It was also by Ida Sjöstedt. She wore the same nude Charlotte Olympia heels with both.
We will take a look at the outfits worn to Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia's nuptials in a later post. Watch this space!
