One shoulder beautiful gowns for the Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex - BOTH looked fantastic
We’ve all seen it. The white one shoulder gown the Duchess of Cambridge wore to the BAFTAs was “angelic”, “beautiful”, “true princess” dress. The black one shoulder gown the Duchess of Sussex wore to the British Fashion Awards was “vulgar” and “breaking protocol.”
In reality? BOTH dresses were beautiful and flattered both women. Neither broke protocol, and neither were vulgar for their choice. Calling one dress vulgar and another a real princess look is a true example of a double standard. What is ok for one, is not ok for the other…the reason, well I’ll leave that for you to decide.
I know some will disagree, which is their prerogative.
Now, I’ll admit that for full disclosure. I’m more partial to Meghan’s clothes because they are more in line with my style. That doesn’t mean that Kate’s style is ugly or wrong. We each have different tastes.
So let’s take a look at what, in my opinion, are two of the best outfits Their Royal Highnesses have rocked since becoming royals.
Duchess of Sussex in Givenchy:
For the British Fashion Awards in December 2018, Meghan wore a bespoke black, one shouldered gown that showed off her blossoming baby bump. It also featured a small slit in the legs which showed off her golden strap heels by Tamara Mellon. The Duchess also wore gold bangle bracelets.
Of course, the black velvet gown was made by the same fashion house that made her 2018 wedding gown, Givenchy. And fittingly, she wore it to present Clare Waight Keller, the artistic director of Givenchy who worked closely with Meghan to design the wedding gown, with the British Womenswear Designer of the Year Award.
Duchess of Cambridge in Alexander McQueen:
Like her sister-in-law, Catherine chose her wedding dress designer to create her bespoke one shoulder gown. The Duchess of Cambridge wore a white, one-shouldered gown by Alexander McQueen that featured a floral type detail on the left shoulder. She debut the gown at the 2019 BAFTAs on Sunday, 10 February.
Catherine also wore a pair of silver sparkling Jimmy Choo heels for the evening, a diamond bracelet, and a pair of earrings believed to have belonged to Princess Diana.
I think both ladies looked beautiful, and the dresses spoke to their individual style. What are your thoughts?
