Regal Review: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's 2011 Canada Tour - Day 6

On 5 July 2011, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent the sixth day of their Canada tour in Yellowknife where they had arrived the evening before.


Their day started at Somba K’e Civic Plaza where they took part in Aboriginal traditions and activities, including traditional drumming, dancing, and sports.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also watched street hockey with William even taking a few shots. They were also presented with customized hockey shirts.

Then, the couple attended a session of Youth Parliament at the Legislative Assembly where they learned about the challenges and experience of the Northwest Territories in this region’s unique legislative system which combines Aboriginal traditions of consensus with the traditions of the Westminster parliamentary system.

In the afternoon, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge traveled to Blachford Lake where they met the First Canadian Ranger Patrol Group, part-time reservists who serve their country and their communities by conducting surveillance and sovereignty patrols in locations throughout the North. They were both made Honorary Rangers.

William and Catherine also met NWT Aboriginal elders and young adults to hear their unique and innovative educational program that integrates elements of traditional Aboriginal knowledge and learning into a university-accredited program.

For the morning events, Catherine wore a By Malene Birger dress with her LK Bennett pumps and Stuart Weitzman nude clutch. She also wore Kiki McDonough citrine earrings and her Tiffany & Co bracelet.
