The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attend first day of COP26 in Glasgow
Today, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall for the first day of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow. They were spotted arriving in Glasgow by train in the early afternoon.
Their first official event was at Alexandra Park in Dennistoun where they joined children for an event promoting the Scouts' Promise to the Planet campaign. The Duchess of Cambridge is joint President of the Scouts with the Duke of Kent.
During the event, they planted wildflower seed bombs before cooking veggie burgers with the children.
In the evening, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended two receptions to mark the opening of the COP26. They first joined the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall at a reception for winners of Prince William’s Earthshot Prize and members of Prince Charles’ Sustainable Markets Initiative.
Afterward, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the reception hosted by Prime Minister Johnson for world leaders attending the COP26.
During the reception, a pre-recorded message by the Queen was aired. The Queen said: “It has sometimes been observed that what leaders do for their people today is government and politics. But what they do for the people of tomorrow — that is statesmanship. I, for one, hope that this conference will be one of those rare occasions where everyone will have the chance to rise above the politics of the moment and achieve true statesmanship.”
She also said: “It is a source of great pride to me that the leading role my husband played in encouraging people to protect our fragile planet, lives on through the work of our eldest son Charles and his eldest son William. I could not be more proud of them.”
For the Scouts event, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a new Ganni jacket (with thanks to @LadyParky79) over a new Really Wild sweater (with thanks to Shannon), black jeans, and her See by Chloé boots. She also wore her Daniella Draper hoop earrings and she carried her Smythson while arriving in Glasgow.
For the receptions, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a new Eponine London coat dress with her Kiki McDonough earrings and navy accessories.
