Queen Mathilde visits Global Mercy

Today, Queen Mathilde visited Global Mercy which is the largest hospital ship in the world and the newest addition to the Mercy Ships fleet.

Global Mercy will soon leave for its first mission to Africa, where it will bring free medical care. Queen Mathilde toured the ship which is equipped with 199 beds, 6 operating theaters, a laboratory, scanners, an auditorium for the training and supervision of local nursing staff, and a school for the children of the staff. It is managed by 600 volunteers.

Queen Mathilde is an advocate for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and during her visit, she stressed the importance of access to healthcare for all as one billion people still suffer from inadequate access to medical care.
