The Duchess of Edinburgh visits Ethiopia

This past weekend, the Duchess of Edinburgh started an official visit to Ethiopia to celebrate the work of the international eye care charity Orbis and take part in national World Sight Day festivities. The Duchess of Edinburgh is a Global Ambassador for the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness.

The Duchess of Edinburgh arrived in Ethiopia on Saturday and she attended a reception in support of inclusivity at the British Embassy.

On Sunday, the Duchess of Edinburgh learned more about UNICEF Ethiopia’s work at the Sabacare Camp before visiting Ayder Hospital’s One Stop Centre for survivors of gender-based violence and the Women’s Development Centre which teaches skills to vulnerable women to help them lead an independent life with secure employment. The Duchess of Edinburgh is a champion of the Prevention of Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative.

On Monday, the Duchess of Edinburgh visited Ethiopian Airlines Headquarters at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport to mark the 50th Anniversary of Ethiopian Airlines’ services to the United Kingdom. The Duchess of Edinburgh also held discussions with the Group CEO Mesfin Tasew.
