Dutch Royal Couple and Princess Catharina-Amalia visit the Dutch Caribbean Islands - Day 11
On Thursday, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima, and Princess Catharina-Amalia concluded their tour of the Dutch Caribbean Islands, spending the day in Saba. They were officially welcomed by Governor Jonathan Johnson.
They then went to Solar Park to hear about Saba’s goal to become energy neutral within the next few years.
The Royal Couple and the Princess of Orange visited Zion’s Hill village to learn more about lacemaking, a Saban tradition.
Afterward, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima, and Princess Catharina-Amalia walked through Windwardside village where they met residents.
They also visited the Harry L. Johnson Museum where they learned about life on Saba through the years.
In the afternoon, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima, and Princess Catharina-Amalia visited the Expertise Center Education Care (EC2) in St Johns. The organization aims to support vulnerable schoolchildren and won an Orange Fund ‘Appeltje van Oranje’ award in 2021.
Afterward, they visited the island’s harbor where they heard more about a project on Diadema sea urchins, which help protect coral reefs by eating the algae that would otherwise overrun the coral.
They then went to The Bottom where they played sports with children on the world’s largest Cruyff Court. The Cruyff Courts are an initiative from the Johan Cruyff Foundation, founded by late Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff.
At J.E. Yrausquin Airport, they also unveiled the letters S A B A before departing.
King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima, and Princess Catharina-Amalia concluded their tour with a traditional press conference. On social media, Princess Catharina-Amalia shared this message: “Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I couldn’t have wished for a better introduction to the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. Getting to know all the islands was a wonderful experience and I look forward to returning. On behalf of myself and my parents, I’d like to say: masha danki!”
Queen Maxima wore a Foberini dress (with thanks to ModeKoninginMaxima) with her Salvatore Ferragamo sandals and her Sophie Habsburg clutch. In the afternoon, she changed into Gianvito Rossi sandals.
Princess Catharina-Amalia first wore a Fabienne Chapot blouse (with thanks to ModeKoninginMaxima) with red trousers and her Gianvito Rossi sandals and her Marina Raphael bag. Later in the afternoon, she changed into her Autry sneakers. She paired the outfit with her Chimi sunglasses, her Marianna Lemos necklace, her mother’s Zara earrings, her Hermes bracelet, and her Apple watch.
For the press conference, Princess Catharina-Amalia wore her Max Mara suit with a green blouse and her Autry sneakers. She also wore her Marianna Lemos necklace, her Hermes bracelet, and her Apple watch.
