King Carl Gustaf's Golden Jubilee - Te Deum & Changing of the Guard

On Friday, the Swedish Royal Family and foreign royal guests celebrated King Carl Gustaf’s Golden Jubilee in Stockholm. King Carl Gustaf ascended the throne on September 15th, 1973. The day also marks Prince Daniel’s 50th birthday.

They first attended a Te Deum in the Royal Palace’s Church. The service was officiated by chief court preacher Johan Dalman and Michael Bjerkhagen, pastor in the Royal Court assembly.

Afterward, King Carl Gustaf and Prince Carl Philip watched the Changing of the Guard in front of the Palace while the Swedish Royal Family watched from the balcony.

King Carl Gustaf then received a singing tribute from about 130 choir singers from Boden's music classes , Västerås boys' choir , Lars-Erik Larssongymnasiet, Linköping 's music classes and the Radio Choir under the direction of Christina Hörnell. The Swedish Royal Family and the foreign royal guests were watching from the balcony.

The Jubilee day also marks the 50th anniversary of the death of King Gustaf VI Adolf. The Swedish Royal Family, Queen Margrethe, Queen Anne-Marie, and the Danish Crown Prince Couple attended a private a memorial service at King Gustaf VI Adolf's grave during the day.

King Carl Gustaf also made a speech to the Swedish people to mark his 50 years on the throne. He said: “Succeeding my grandfather was a big – and not always so easy – task. But I am very grateful for the support I have received from my dear family who have loyally stood by my side over the years. The Queen, our children with their families, and my sisters have all always been there. Also particularly important is the trust I received - and continue to receive - from you, the people of Sweden. Your support has been invaluable to me. For this I want to express my deep and warm thanks today.”
