The Duchess of Edinburgh visits Chad

This weekend, the Duchess of Edinburgh made a three-day official visit to Chad in her role as a global champion of the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda and a supporter of the UK's Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI).

Following her arrival on Saturday, the Duchess of Edinburgh attended a garden party at the British Embassy where she met charity workers and NGOs.

On Sunday, the Duchess of Edinburgh traveled to Adré, a town 400 meters from the border with Sudan. She met with refugees of the ongoing conflict. She also met with humanitarian workers from UNICEF, UNHCR, Chad's National Commission for the Reception and Reintegration of Refugees and Returnees, Chadian Red Cross, and Médecins Sans Frontières to hear about their role in supporting, registering, and relocating refugees fleeing the conflict.

The Duchess of Edinburgh also visited the Adré District Hospital where she toured the Multisectoral Services Centre which is focused on providing holistic care to survivors of gender-based violence. She also met with representatives from the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) Network and the Darfur Women Action Group (DWAG).
