Regal Review: King Willem-Alexander's Inauguration Ceremony

Seven years ago today, Queen Beatrix abdicated for her son King Willem-Alexander. While we took a look at Queen Beatrix’s last gala dinner as Queen of the Netherlands yesterday, today’s Regal Review posts will celebrate King Willem-Alexander’s accession to the throne and the festivities hosted by the Dutch royal family!

In the morning of April 30th, 2013, Queen Beatrix officially abdicated - thus becoming Princess Beatrix- while Willem-Alexander and Maxima became King and Queen of the Netherlands.

Maxima wore a new outfit by Natan. It was custom made for the new Queen and featured a signature big bow on the shoulder. The King and Queen’s daughters looked lovely wearing Pili Carrera yellow dresses.

Princess Mabel wore a white Viktor & Rolf bow printed dress with black lace pumps.

Princess Laurentien wore a yellow cape dress by Natan.

In the afternoon, the inauguration ceremony of the new King took place at Nieuwe Kerk with the entire Dutch royal family in attendance as well as foreign royal guests.

Queen Maxima looked absolutely stunning wearing a royal blue gown with an embroidered overlay and a matching cape. For her first tiara appearance as Queen of the Netherlands, she decided to wear the Mellerio Sapphire Tiara.

Princesses Amalia, Alexia and Ariane wore custom made Natan dresses.

Princess Beatrix wore a royal blue printed gown while Princess Mabel wore a black Viktor & Rolf gown with a white bow sleeve. The bow and the designer were a nod to her wedding gown.

Princess Laurentien wore a red cape gown that could possibly be a custom made Natan design with a matching red hat and red accessories.

The then-Princess Letizia wore a grey lace bespoke Felipe Varela gown with grey Magrit shoes and a grey Maria Nieto hat.

Crown Princess Victoria wore an Escada gown with matching beige By Malene Birger pumps, her gold Anya Hindmarch clutch and a Philip Treacy hat.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit wore a bespoke Valentino embroidered gown with a white Valentino minaudière and white pumps.

Crown Princess Mary wore a gown made by Charlotte Lynggaard for Ole Lynggaard with her Prada pink satin pumps and her Bottega Veneta pink satin clutch. She wore a grey fascinator and the hairpins from the Ruby parure.

Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie wore a beige gown with a matching embellished jacket and brown accessories.

After the ceremony, the Dutch King and Queen posed with their foreign guests for an official photo at the Royal Palace.

Stay tuned for our next Regal Review post later today covering the evening celebration of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima!
