Dutch State Visit to Norway - Day 1

Dutch State Visit to Norway - Day 1

Today, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima started their three-day state visit to Norway. They arrived in Oslo in the morning and King Willem-Alexander was the one who flew the plane.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima were then officially welcomed by King Harald and Queen Sonja at the Royal Palace. Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Princess Märtha-Louise also attended the ceremony. Crown Prince Haakon did not attend as he has a cold.

Afterward, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima took part in a wreath-laying ceremony with King Harald and Queen Sonja.

King Harald and Queen Sonja offered an official lunch for King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima at the Royal Palace with the Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Princess Märtha-Louise in attendance.

In the afternoon, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima visited the Norwegian Parliament in Oslo.

They were then joined by King Harald and Queen Sonja at the Fram Museum where they attended a roundtable discussion with young people and students from Norway and the Netherlands about the development and future prospects in the Arctic.

In the evening, King Harald and Queen Sonja hosted a gala dinner for King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima at the Royal Palace. Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Princess Märtha-Louise were also in attendance.

In his speech, King Harald said: “We are impressed by the way that you, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, have defined your own role as Majesties. It was no easy task to be the successors to a beloved Queen, my dear friend Princess Beatrix. You have formed a genuinely modern monarchy based on who you are – with warmth and wisdom, a sense of humour and a deep devotion to your country and your people.”

King Harald also joked about the rivalry between the Netherlands and Norway in sports: “For many years, we have enjoyed hard competition in speed skating – a sport that has been dominated by the Dutch for decades. And next week, the Netherlands and Norway will be facing off in a crucial world cup qualifying match. When they last competed in September, many Dutch supporters thought the Norwegian fans were chanting Holland. In fact, they were chanting Haaland - the striker of the Norwegian team. So just to be clear: I wish the Dutch good luck in the game next week – but not too much good luck…”

For the day events, Queen Maxima wore her Natan green midi dress with her Gianvito Rossi pumps and Sophie Habsburg clutch. She also wore a Fabienne Delvigne hat. For her visit to the Fram Museum, Queen Maxima changed into her Salvatore Ferragamo pumps.

Queen Sonja wore a repeated blue and chocolate brown outfit with a Chanel bag. For the visit to the Fram Museum, she changed into a white and brown outfit with the same bag.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit wore her Fendi taupe dress with her Christian Louboutin nude pumps and her Sarah’s Bag clutch.

Princess Märtha-Louise wore a Rena Lange red outfit which was first worn by Queen Sonja in 2011.

For the gala dinner, Queen Maxima wore her Jan Taminiau gown with her Celestina clutch with Queen Emma’s Sapphire Tiara. It’s possible her sandals are her Jimmy Choo ‘Misty’ sandals.

Queen Sonja wore a repeated lime green gown with a Whiting & Davis clutch and the Leuchtenberg Emerald Tiara.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit wore a repeated white gown with her Manolo Blahnik glitter pumps and her Emilio Pucci white clutch as well as the Diamond Daisy Bandeau Tiara.

Princess Märtha-Louise wore the lilac gown she first wore to the wedding of Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill in 2013 with the Amethyst Tiara. She also wore earrings and a necklace that were first worn by her mother in 2003 in Brazil. It seems she also wore her Gina pumps.
