Swedish Royal Family Celebrates Victoriadagen

Happy 44th Birthday to Crown Princess Victoria! Like last year, the traditional celebrations had to be altered to fit the COVID-19 restrictions. While typically, visitors gather outside of Solliden Palace for hours while the King, Queen, and Crown Princess family walks around meeting and talking to people- today it was just a few photographers.

This evening, the traditional Victoriadagen Concert took place- with restrictions. During the concert, which was broadcast on SVT, Victoria handed out the Victoria Prize to Nils van der Poel. Each year since 1979, the Victoria Prize has been awarded to one or more athletes who have performed an extra meritorious achievement during the year. Nils van der Poel is a 25 year old Swedish Skater who back in February won World Cup gold in the 5,000 meters. Three days later, he also took the gold in the 10,000 meters and at the same time made a new world record with 12.32.95.

Crown Princess Victoria was joined at the concert by the King, Queen, Prince Carl Philip, Princess Madeleine, and Christopher O’Neill who have arrived in Öland for their summer holiday. Princess Sofia decided at the last minute to stay home, as Prince Julian is still quite young and being breastfed. This year also marks the first time Prince Oscar has attended the concert.

For the photo call, and subsequent concert, Crown Princess Victoria broke tradition and wore a By Malina Iro dress. Typically for the concert, the Crown Princess wears her Öland dress along with the Queen- but as the format of this concert was different, she felt it was more appropriate to wear a dress. She paired this dress with new Valentino wedges, diamond hoop earring and carried her Miu Miu clutch.

Princess Estelle wore an old dress of Crown Princess Victoria’s- previously worn on the Crown Princess 10th birthday at Öland. Prince Oscar wore a white linen shirt and khaki shorts with Adidas Stan Smith sneakers.

Princess Madeleine wore a new dress from D’Ascoli x Maisonette which she paired with Mignonne Gavigan Delfina Hoop earrings and Valentino Wedges (same wedges that Crown Princess Victoria is wearing). On her wrist her Cartier Love Bracelet could be seen.

Queen Silvia wore her Marzio quilted ballet flats.
