Crown Princess Mette-Marit hosts Unifying Threads symposium

On Friday, Crown Princess Mette-Marit hosted the Unifying Threads symposium as she wanted to facilitate an inspiring meeting place for more than 250 weaving enthusiasts in Dronning Sonja KunstStall.

In her speech, Crown Princess Mette-Marit said: “When I sit in the weaving room, I am often among the youngest - the hair colors in a weaving room tend to - without offending anyone - be 50 shades of grey. That is why it is so heartening to see that there are many young people now who want to study the old traditions, that more people choose weaving when they want to express themselves artistically, and that it is growing in the Norwegian weaving environment. But for it to continue to sprout, we have to ensure good soil and good growing conditions. We have to make sure that the craft is not taken out of curricula and disappears from schools, and we have to make sure that it is possible to take a practical education in the weaving subject.”

Crown Prince Haakon and Queen Sonja also attended some parts of the symposium, with Queen Sonja taking part in an on-stage conversation with weaver Anne Britt Lotsberg.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit wore a Bella Freud jacket with a white top, her Zimmermann trousers, and her Chanel pumps. She paired the outfit with her Venyx earrings, her Elie Top charm necklace, her Cartier ring, and her Tom Ford glasses. During the event, she changed into her New Balance sneakers.
