Poppy Shop First Women of the Armed Forces Brooch
This brooch celebrates women’s achievements throughout the services – those who have broken boundaries, launched legacies, and been the ‘first’ to achieve a rank or position within the Armed Forces. We feature Flight Lieutenant Julie Ann Gibson who graduated as the first female pilot in the RAF and awarded her wings in 1991. Prior to this, female pilots were only able to fly as auxiliary pilots in a non-combat role, so this really was ground-breaking.
