A Deep Dive into the Duchess of Sussex 2019 Wardrobe
With 2019 coming to a close, and the Royal Family’s enjoying their own Winter Vacations. With this, we decided to take a deep dive the new clothing we saw from a few of our favorite royals over the year. Today we are looking into the closet of the Duchess of Sussex and the 169 new items she debuted this year.
This year, the Duchess of Sussex debuted 4 new gowns this year. Ranging from bespoke Dior to Carolina Herrera to ready-to-wear Roland Mouret, she added some classics to her closet. We loved the color of this Roland Mouret Sarandon Gown seen in January (and we can only wonder if Princess Madeleine of Sweden saw it on the Duchess and that is inspired her to wear it in silver in February).
2019 was a monumental year for the Duchess, who welcomed her first son with Prince Harry in May. During the photo call connected to the birth, the Duchess wore a bespoke dress from Wales Bonner. This was only one of the 29 new dresses that she debuted throughout the year. Our favorites of the year were her H&M Mama Knit Dress and the Stella McCartney Short-sleeve Belted Dress.
The Duchess of Sussex added 20 pieces of outerwear to her closet this year. Whether it be a classic oversized trench coat from Oscar de la Renta or Alice + Olivia Rolled Cuff blazer, the Duchess made sure her choice was perfectly matched to whatever outfit.
We saw a lot of the Duchess in more casualwear this year and that meant 11 more versatile tops added to her closet. Her Madewell Ivory Strap Flutter Top and Misha Nonoo Boyfriend Tank 2.0 were two that we hope to see again in the future!
With these new tops, the Duchess also debuted 12 new bottoms (skirt and pants) this year. Among our favorite were her J.Crew Striped Midi Skirt which she wore to a private breakfast meeting in Cape Town. Another pair of our favorites seen this year were her Mother The Swooner Ankle Slice Jeans seen when attending Wimbledon with her girlfriends in July.
It is no secret that the Duchess of Sussex loves her shoes. She debuted 21 pairs this year and there were some fabulous pairs in that bundle. We loved her red Everlane the Editor Slingback Flats and her Aquazzura Savoy Pumps in Black- both made a statement in their own outfits.
Every mom knows that babies require a lot of stuff and for all that stuff, you need to find yourself a good bag. The Duchess of Sussex debuted 17 new bags this year, with everything from her glamorous Gucci Broadway Clutch to her functional Stella McCartney Falabella Mini Tote Bag- she certainly was prepared for every occasion.
With the birth of her son Archie, we saw Meghan’s sentimental side reflected her her jewelry. With 37 new pieces of jewelry seen throughout the year, we’ve loved the mix of more delicate pieces, like her Mini Mini Jewels Dog Tag Necklace, or her statement Gas Bijoux Onde Earrings seen in early February.
Over the year, the Duchess of Sussex debuted 13 different accessories. From belts, to sunglasses, and scarves. With 5 pairs of sunglasses in this mix, we loved her Illesteva York Sunglasses in Tortoise stood out to us as a staple pair which we hope to see in the future. And who can forget that closet staple Madewell Leather Belt (seen above)!
No formal occasion is complete without a good headpiece and this year the Duchess made room for 5 new hatboxes in her closet. Noel Stewart, Stephen Jones, and Philip Treacy all created pieces which she added to her closet this year.
