Queen Silvia

Silvia Renate Sommerlath was born in n Heidelberg, Germany, to Walther and Alice Sommerlath on December 23, 1943 - during World War Two. She has three brothers Ralph, Walther, and Jörg. She studied at the Munich School of Interpreting where she studied Spanish. A polyglot, Silvia speaks six languages (English, Swedish, German, Spanish, Portuguese, and French). She met King Carl XVI Gustaf at the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 when he was still Crown Prince. They married on June 19, 1976.

Silvia and Carl Gustaf have three children: Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine. They also have eight grandchildren.
