Marie Agathe Odile Cavallier was born in Paris, France, to Alain Cavallier and Françoise Grassiot on February 6, 1976. She spent a significant part of her life in Geneva, Switzerland, after her parents’ divorce where she lived with her mother.
The polyglot (speaking French, Spanish, English, Italian, and Danish) attended Marymount Manhattan College in New York City where she earned a Bachelor of Arts.
She married the younger son of Queen Margrethe of Denmark on May 24, 2008, after converting from Roman Catholicism to the Church of Denmark. They have two children: Count Henrik and Countess Athena. She is the stepmother to his two older children from his previous marriage: Counts Nikolai and Felix.
