Princess Marie at her daughter, Princess Athena's christening
Today we are taking a look back at the outfit Princess Marie wore to her daughter, Princess Athena's christening on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Møgeltønder Church. The ceremony was broadcast live on DR1.
For her daughter's important day, Princess Marie wore a blush pink Valentino short sleeved dress and Jil Sander pumps that matched.
Only one other royal's outfit was ID'd from the day. Crown Princess Mary was in a sky blue floral/bird short-sleeved dress by Project D with a little peplum and navy pumps.
For her part, Athena was in the Henrik Hviid christening gown worn by her brothers.
According to Danish royal tradition, the Princess's names were not revealed until her christening; royal followers had to wait from the time of her birth on January 24, 2012, to May (five months) to learn her names! During the Christian ceremony, her names were revealed as Athena Marguerite Françoise Marie. Her names came from her maternal and paternal grandmothers and her mother.
Athena's godparents were Gregory Grandet and Edouard Cavallier (maternal uncles), Carina Axelsson (family friend), and Julie Mirabaud, Diego de Lavandeyra and Henriette Steenstrup (friends of her parents).
In attendance were Athena's grandparents (Queen Margrethe, Prince Henrik, Françoise Grassiot and Alain Cavallier); aunt and uncle (Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary); first cousins (Prince Christian and Princess Isabella), parents (Prince Joachim and Princess Marie); brothers (Princes Nikolai, Felix and Henrik); distant cousins (Count Ingolf and Countess Sussie of Rosenborg) and godparents.
Athena's older brothers, Princes Felix and Henrik were also christened in Møgeltønder Church.
