Regal Review: Queen Margrethe's 75th Birthday Celebrations - Aarhus

On 16 April, Queen Margrethe of Denmark will celebrate her 80th birthday. Unfortunately, due to the current coronavirus crisis, the celebrations had to be canceled. (On that note, we hope you are all safe, taking care of yourselves and each other and staying home if you can!) Since we won’t be able to cover Queen Margrethe’s 80th birthday celebrations, we thought we’d take a trip down memory lane to her 75th birthday celebrations in 2015 in our new Regal Review series!

The celebrations started in Aarhus on 8 April 2015 with a series of events. Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik took part in a carriage ride through the city that bought them to the City Hall.

There, they were joined by Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie for a reception. The reception featured music by the Aarhus Music School and both the Mayor and Queen Margrethe made speeches.

After the reception, the royal family appeared on the City Hall’s balcony to greet the crowd that was waiting for them outside to celebrate the Queen. The Queen had also celebrated her 70th birthday with events in Aarhus.

In the evening, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik attended a concert at Aarhus’ Music House. The concert featured performances by Ørkenens Sønner, ballet dancers Ida Praetorius and Sebastian Haynes as well as Rasmus Seebach and Anne Linnet. The concert was broadcasted on TV2.

The royal couple was joined by the Crown Prince couple with Prince Christian and Princess Isabella as well as Prince Joachim, Princess Marie, Prince Nikolai, and Prince Felix.

The concert concluded the celebrations of Queen Margrethe’s 75th birthday in Aarhus but the Queen had several more events planned (including two gala dinners with foreign royal guests!) on 15 and 16 April and those will be our next posts in the Regal Review series!

Now onto the fashion! For the day events, Queen Margrethe wore a white outfit with her Salvatore Ferragamo bag. In the evening, she looked stunning wearing a navy lace gown.

Crown Princess Mary wore her Birgit Hallstein coat with a white Paule Ka dress. She accessorized with a black hat, SAND black pumps and her Quidam black clutch.

For the concert, she wore a repeated Prada gown with Prada satin shoes and pumps. She also debuted a new necklace that we discovered a few months later was actually convertible into a tiara!

Princess Marie wore a new Paule Ka white and navy belted coat with her Whiteley navy hat. She also wore Zara pumps and her Longchamp clutch with sapphire earrings and Queen Alexandrine’s sapphire and diamond brooch.

For the concert, she wore her Henrik Hviid pink embellished gown with her UFO gold clutch and her Jimmy Choo metallic sandals.
