Regal Review: The Wedding of Crown Prince Frederik & Crown Princess Mary
Happy 16th wedding anniversary to Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary! And what better way to celebrate than looking back on the fashion and the amazing jewels from the royal guests?
After the ceremony, the newly married couple appeared on the balcony of Amalienborg Palace to greet the crowds.
Then, a reception took place at Fredensborg Castle where the couple danced a lovely waltz in front of their guests.
Crown Princess Mary’s wedding gown was made by Danish designer Uffe Frank. The wedding gown is made of white duchess satin which shines like mother-of-pearl. It has long panels that open 10 centimetres from the waist, and are sewn in such a way that between each panel old lace, which is almost 100 years old, can be seen. Uffe Frank called the sleeves “Calla sleeves” because they fold like Calla lillies. She wore a new tiara purchased by Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik for the occasion and earrings made by Marianne Dulong.
Queen Margrethe wore a white floral gown with a pink long coat by Danish designer Mogens Eriksen. She wore the Floral Aigrette tiara.
Crown Princess Marie Chantal wore a pink gown that we assume is Valentino. According to The Court Jeweller, she wore a tiara that was borrowed from British jewelry house William & Son.
Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine wore pastel gowns that are still UFOs to this day. Queen Silvia wore the amethyst parure, Crown Princess Victoria wore the Four Button Tiara and Princess Madeleine wore her Aquamarine Bandeau with the Modern Fringe Tiara as a necklace.
Queen Sonja wore a red sleeveless dress with a very interesting neckline with the tiara, earrings, necklace, brooch and bracelet from the emerald parure.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit wore a Valentino blue strapless gown with a matching Valentino jacket. She wore her Daisy Diamond Bandeau.
Princess Martha Louise wore a blue and orange strapless striped gown and a matching clutch with her 18th birthday gift tiara.
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa wore a Elie Saab beaded gown with the aquamarine tiara and earrings.
The then-Princess Maxima wore a custom made Valentino one shoulder pink gown. She wore the base of the Pearl Button tiara with five of the family's antique diamond stars.
Princess Caroline of Monaco wore a navy gown that we think might be from Chanel although there has been no confirmation. She wore the Brunswick Tiara with a sapphire necklace and earrings from Cartier.
The Countess of Wessex wore a bright pink gown with a matching shawl with her wedding tiara.
Queen Letizia, who was not yet married to King Felipe, wore a stunning red Lorenzo Caprile gown. As she wasn’t a member of the Spanish royal family yet, Letizia did not wear a tiara.
