The Duchess of Sussex takes part in The 19th Represents Summit
Today, the Duchess of Sussex took part in The 19th Represents Summit. The 19th* is a nonprofit, nonpartisan newsroom reporting on gender, politics, and policy that was founded by Emily Ramshaw.
As she interviewed Emily Ramshaw to conclude the summit, the Duchess of Sussex said: “People are craving a change. In the place we’re all in right now, there’s such a moment where people are starting to question the systems we’ve always believed in.”
She also talked about how important voting is ahead of the US election in November: “When I have these conversations about encouraging people to go out and vote, I think it's often challenging for men and women alike and certainly for people to remember just how hard it was to get the right to vote. And to be really aware and not taking that for granted.”
The Duchess of Sussex also talked about the need for reporting using a compassionate and empathetic lens: “There's so much toxicity out there in what is referred to - my husband and I talk about it often - this economy for attention. That is what is monetizable right now when you're looking at the digital space and media. So if you're trying to grab someone's attention and keep it, you're going for something salacious versus something truthful. And I think once we get back to that place, which is what you're creating here, which I think is so important, where people are just telling the truth in their reporting and telling it through a compassionate and empathetic lens, it's going to help bound people as a community.“
