Norwegian Royal Family marks 10th anniversary of 22 July terrorist attacks

On Thursday, the Norwegian Royal Family attended several events marking the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that happened on 22 July 2011 in Oslo and Utøya.

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit first attended an official ceremony in the Government Quarter in Oslo where the first attack took place and 8 were killed. During the ceremony, they laid a wreath at the memorial to the dead.

King Harald and Queen Sonja then attended a memorial service in Oslo Cathedral. During the service, candles were lit by representatives of different faiths in honor of the victims and survivors.

In the afternoon, Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, and Princess Ingrid Alexandra attended an official ceremony at Utøya where the second attack took place and 69 were killed. Alongside representatives of survivors and victims, they laid flowers below the "Lysningen" memorial where the names of the victims are written.

During the ceremony, Crown Prince Haakon made a speech in which he said: “We must dare to talk about what happened, even if it is unpleasant. I am afraid that we as a society have not been good enough to listen and make room for all the emotions, all the traumas this day has given. I hope that this decade mark can help us find the right words, the right language, so that we can move forward. And I hope that the anniversary helps to create space. Room for the stories even if they hurt. Room for all of you who live with wounds and scars.”

In the evening, King Harald, Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, and Prince Sverre Magnus attended a national event of remembrance in Oslo.

In his speech, King Harald said: “I still have great faith in the Norwegian people, because we have shown through many kinds of trials how much we can do when we stand together to protect our basic values. That is why I still hold on to what I said at the time: That the belief in freedom is stronger than the fear. I hold on to the belief in an open democracy and social life. And I hold on to the belief in our ability to live freely and safely in our own country.”

Obviously, fashion is not the focus today but here is a quick recap of what was worn. For the service in Oslo, Queen Sonja wore a repeated white outfit. For the evening event, she wore a navy outfit with her Emilio Pucci white jacket.

For the official ceremony in Oslo, Crown Princess Mette-Marit wore her Oscar de la Renta dress with new Gianvito Rossi pumps and a new Maria La Rosa clutch. She also carried her Saint Laurent sunglasses.

For the ceremony in Utøya, Crown Princess Mette-Marit wore her ByTiMo blue printed top with navy trousers, her Christian Louboutin ballet flats and her Prada black clutch. She also wore her Saint Laurent sunglasses.

For the evening event, Crown Princess Mette-Marit wore her Erdem black floral printed dress with her Christian Louboutin nude pumps and her Naledi Copenhagen green clutch.

For the ceremony in Utøya, Princess Ingrid Alexandra wore a blue top by Chloé with black trousers and her Superga sneakers. She also carried the Maria La Rosa bag her mother carried earlier in the day and she wore a Delfina Delettrez ring that belongs to her mother. We can assume the top also belongs to her mother as - while she has never worn it publicly before - Crown Princess Mette-Marit wore the pink version of the top in 2007. Her earrings are by Home Made By Em (with thanks to @HelenCH1).

For the evening event, Princess Ingrid Alexandra wore a Bill Blass navy dress that her mother first wore in 2007 with Unisa nude sandals and her Maria La Rosa bag. She also wore her Delfina Delettrez ring and Home Made By Em earrings.
