Today, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima, and Princess Beatrix attended the Four Freedoms Awards 2022 in Middelburg.
The Four Freedoms Awards are presented each year to people and organizations whose efforts and achievements “demonstrate a deep commitment to the ideals proclaimed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in his historic Four Freedoms speech in 1941.”
This year’s winners are Vietnamese singer-songwriter and free speech fighter Mai Khoi Do Nguyen (Freedom of Speech Award); Indonesian founder and president of the Mosintuwu Institute Lian Gogali (Freedom of Religion Award); Kenyan human rights activist Nice Nailantei Leng'ete (Freedom of Defect Award); and the Turkish non-governmental LGBTI+ organization ÜniKuir (Freedom from Fear Award).
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Mark Rutte also presented the International Four Freedoms Award to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, leader of the democratic movement in Belarus.
Queen Maxima wore her Natan dress with her Gianvito Rossi pumps and her Sophie Habsburg clutch. She also wore her Fabienne Delvigne hat and her Dinh Van bracelet.
