South Korean State Visit to the United Kingdom - Day 1
On Tuesday, the President of South Korea Yoon Suk Yeol and the First Lady started a 3-day state visit to the United Kingdom.
The President and the First Lady were officially welcomed by the Prince and Princess of Wales on behalf of King Charles at their hotel.
Afterward, the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Presidential Couple traveled to the Horse Guards Parade where they attended the official welcome ceremony with the King and the Queen.
They then took part in a carriage procession along the Mall to Buckingham Palace where the King and the Queen hosted a private lunch.
Afterward, the King and Queen and the Presidential Couple viewed an exhibition in the Buckingham Palace Picture Gallery of items relating to South Africa. The Prince and Princess of Wales, the Duchess of Edinburgh, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
In the evening, the King and Queen hosted a state banquet for President Yoon Suk Yeol and the First Lady.
In his speech, King Charles said: “As our nations strive towards a harmony between progress and preservation, between the past and the present, we can look to the future with great confidence as our peoples forge ever closer links. In education, so many young Koreans and Britons study at each other’s world-class universities. In the arts, Korean singers and musicians delight audiences when they perform with British orchestras. In sport, Korean footballers grace the English and Scottish Premier Leagues, and a British coach manages Korea’s women’s football team. In science, our researchers collaborate to find new energy solutions through hydrogen and fusion technology. Our defence companies seek joint projects which will let them find new markets together. Our cyber experts work together to protect us from those who would do us harm.”
The Princess of Wales first wore a Catherine Walker cape with her Catherine Walker coat, her Gianvito Rossi pumps, and her Miu Miu clutch. She also wore a Jane Taylor hat.
The Duchess of Edinburgh wore a Gabriela Hearst dress with a BCBG MaxAzria belt and her Sophie Habsburg clutch.
For the State Banquet, the Princess of Wales wore a Jenny Packham gown (with thanks to Katie) with her Gianvito Rossi pumps and her Anya Hindmarch clutch. She also wore the Strathmore Rose Tiara for the first time.
The Duchess of Edinburgh wore her Suzannah gown with her Emmy pumps and her Anya Hindmarch clutch. She also wore her Aquamarine Necklace Tiara.
