On Wednesday, the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and his wife, Elke Büdenbender, started a three-day State Visit to the United Kingdom. They were officially welcomed upon their arrival at Hearthrow Airport by the Prince and Princess of Wales.
The Presidential Couple and the Prince and Princess of Wales then went to Windsor Castle where they joined the King and Queen for the official welcome ceremony.
Then, a private lunch was hosted at Windsor Castle, after which the Royal Couple and the Presidential Couple viewed an exhibition in the Green Drawing Room of items relating to Germany. In his speech, King Charles said: “As two of the world’s great economies and great powers, and with such intimate understanding of one another, I am confident we will face these challenges together. Our partnership continues to adapt to new times. We now find ourselves at the forefront of a global transformation - the search for a way of living that is at once prosperous, humane and sustainable. Here, as elsewhere, Britain and Germany stand shoulder to shoulder – guided not only by technology and science, but by conscience.”
