Queen Silvia visits Bangkok with the World Childhood Foundation
This week, Queen Silvia was in Bangkok, Thailand, with the World Childhood Foundation. On Wednesday, she visited the women's organization Association for the Promotion of the Status of Women (APSW). She also met with representatives from Childhood's partners in Thailand.
On Wednesday evening, Queen Silvia visited an exhibition of children's projects before attending a gala dinner for donors and guests.
On Thursday, Queen Silvia joined Queen Suthida of Thailand at the Child Protection Summit at the UN conference center in Bangkok. The summit was organized by Childhood and SafeguardKids Foundation.
In her speech, Queen Silvia said: “Child sexual abuse is difficult and unpleasant to talk about. It also applies to me, as a woman, as a mother, grandmother and grandmother, and as Queen. But silence doesn't make it go away, silence only helps the perpetrator. Sexual abuse happens everywhere, in every country in the world, in every culture and society. And if I don't speak, who will?”
