Princess Leonor makes official visit to Portugal
On Friday, Princess Leonor made her first solo official visit abroad as she spent the day in Portugal. Princess Leonor departed Madrid in the morning following an official ceremony at Madrid-Barajas airport.
Princess Leonor was officially welcomed by Portugal’s President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa at Lisbon’s airport.
Princess Leonor then visited Jerónimos Monastery of Santa María de Belém where she laid a wreath at the tomb of Luis de Camões and toured the Monastery.
Afterward, she traveled to Belém Palace where she was received by the President. The President also awarded Princess Leonor the Grand Cross of the Order of Christ.
President Rebelo de Sousa then hosted an official lunch in honor of Princess Leonor. In her speech, Princess Leonor said: “Ten years ago, this beloved country was the first destination of my parents as King and Queen of Spain, so I cannot deny how special it is for me to be here today. They, who have been here on so many occasions, have spoken to me with great affection, “com saudade”, of their visits to Portugal, of the love they have received in its streets, and of how you have always made them feel at home. That is how I feel today. This is a trip that I was looking forward to and that makes me very happy.”
In the afternoon, Princess Leonor and President Rebelo de Sousa visited the Lisbon Oceanarium. During their visit, they took part in a roundtable discussion on “Ocean Defense, scientific expeditions and alignment of ocean policy frameworks and the economy”.
Princess Leonor then greeted the crowds before traveling to Lisbon’s Airport where she bid farewell to President Rebelo de Sousa.
Princess Leonor wore a Carolina Herrera suit (with thanks to Nuria) with her PINKCHICguagua pumps and an Olivia Mareque bag. She paired the outfit with her mother’s Gold & Roses earrings.
