Norwegian Royal Family hosts gala dinner for members of Parliament

On Thursday, King Harald and Queen Sonja hosted the traditional gala dinner for members of the Parliament with Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, and Princess Astrid in attendance.

In his speech, King Harald said: “We do agree on one thing, however, and that is that we want a democratic system of government. We want power to come from the people, and that all citizens should be equal before the law. We believe that everyone should be able to express themselves without fear – within the framework of the rule of law, and the free press should be able to ensure transparency and control over those of us who have power and positions. The majority should rule, but the rights of minorities should be protected. Human rights are supposed to give citizens rights and governments duties. We hope that democracy gives citizens the freedom to find their own path. To try and fail, to explore who they are and who they love.”

Queen Sonja wore a two-tone gown with her Judith Leiber clutch. She wore Queen Maud’s Pearl Tiara.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit wore a Carolina Herrera gown with her Manolo Blahnik pumps and a repeated clutch. She wore her Diamond Daisy Bandeau Tiara.
