King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima's State Visit to Germany - Day 3

Today, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima spent their third and last day in Berlin as they ended their state visit to Germany.

Before starting their agenda for the day, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima made a statement outside their hotel about the shooting of Dutch crime journalist Peter de Vries in a street of Amsterdam yesterday. In a written statement released last night, the couple said: “Journalists should be able to do their important work unthreatened and freely. We feel connected to everyone who is committed to the free press in our rule of law."

Afterward, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima visited the Technical University Berlin to learn more about the use of photonics in computer screens, lasers, surveillance cameras, and solar cells. Berlin declared 2021 the year of science and a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to further the German-Dutch cooperation in the field of photonics and quantum mechanics.

The royal couple then visited the Park Herzberge where they met promoters, stakeholders, and children to discuss nature and environmental education as well as the history of the park. The nature conversion area plays an important role in nature and environmental education for several schools in Berlin-Lichtenberg.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima then went to the Humboldt Forum where they visited the BERLIN GLOBAL exhibition which shows what development Berlin has gone through and how Berlin and its inhabitants are connected to the world.

The state visit concluded with a lunch on the theme of Year of the Volunteer in Berlin. About the state visit, the royal couple said: “Many thanks for the hospitable reception. This state visit was not a conclusion, but the beginning of something new. In the coming years, we will closely monitor developments and support German-Dutch initiatives and innovations. We hope that we will meet again. We will continue to cherish our multifaceted relationship with the Federal Republic of Germany!”

Queen Maxima wore a repeated Natan dress with a new Max Mara belt (with thanks to ModeKoninginMaxima). She wore her Gianvito Rossi suede pumps for most of the day but changed into new Jimmy Choo ballet flats for their visit to the park. Queen Maxima also wore her Ole Lynggaard earrings and Fabienne Delvigne hat.
