The side event titled “On the road to recovering from Covid-19 and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals: addressing the challenges of people living with a rare disease as human rights, a priority for sustainable development ” was supported by the Permanent Mission of Spain to the UN and is a further step in Spain's support towards the approval of the UN Resolution on Rare Diseases.

The #Resolution4Rare campaign shares tools which are designed to empower people living with a rare disease, their families, civil society groups and all who want to help amplify the global call for a UN resolution in 2021. Spain, Brazil, Qatar, and the associations behind the campaign will present the resolution at the next United Nations General Assembly.

In her speech, Queen Letizia said: “In Spain, the National Strategy for Rare Diseases seeks to comprehensively address the challenges identified by organizations, through initiatives and reference centers encompassing the coordination of social health systems at the highest level of integration in all spheres. We have made some headway, but we still have a long road ahead. For example, we have yet to determine the full impact of the pandemic on people living with rare diseases.”

Queen Letizia wore her Hugo Boss dark jade sheath dress with her Karen Hallam gold ring. It seems she also wore her Coolook earrings.
