King Carl XVI Gustaf and Crown Princess Victoria Meet with New Government
On the morning of Friday, 9 July- King Carl XVI Gustaf and Crown Princess Victoria returned from their summer holidays in Öland to Stockholm to meet with the new government.
At the end of June, the Left party, with support of the opposition parties (Christian Democrats and the Moderate Parties) called for a vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister Stefan Löfven. This resulted in a vote taking place on 21 June 2021 with majority of Riksdag voting in favor of the vote of no confidence. The Prime Minister officially resigned on 28 June and after a failed attempt to form a government by the opposition leader Ulf Kristersson, Stefan Löfven was once again given the chance to form a government. He succeeded in forming a government and was voted to become Prime Minister once again 7 July.
With this announcement comes a special Council Meeting was held at the Palace. The King presides over these meetings and the Crown Princess, as future Head of State, participates and attends to stay informed. (one was previously held in January 2018).
