Grand Ducal Couple celebrates the 75th anniversary of Luxembourg joining UNESCO

On Thursday, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa attended an event celebrating 75 years since Luxembourg joined UNESCO.

During the event, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa received the “Peace Brooch” for her engagement with UNESCO for 25 years as a Goodwill Ambassador. The brooch was designed by Luxembourg artist Anne-Marie Herckes.

In her speech, she said: “As long as there are countries where women are excluded from social and political life, where their bodies are used as battlefields, where children are sold or conscripted as child soldiers, we will not have fulfilled our role! It is precisely here that the preamble to the Constitution of UNESCO is of great help to us since it constantly reminds us of the vital issues to which we must respond.”

The Grand Ducal couple attended a reception with the guests following the ceremony.

Grand Duchess Maria Teresa wore an Alexander McQueen blazer with a black outfit, her Prada pumps, and her Louis Vuitton bag. She also wore jewels by Peruffo, Ole Lynggaard, and Charlotte Chesnais.
