Grand Ducal Couple's State Visit to Portugal - Day 2
On Thursday, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa concluded their two-day visit to Portugal.
The couple first visited the Champalimaud Foundation, a private biomedical research and treatment center specializing in oncology and neuroscience research.
Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa went to the Portuguese Parliament where they attended a working meeting.
They then attended the Portugal-Luxembourg Economic Forum. In his speech, Grand Duke Henri said: “Currently, we are facing enormous challenges to address climate change as well as to adapt to a new geopolitical situation in Europe, due to the war in Ukraine. Both oblige us to urgently reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. Under the banner of the green and digital transformation and sustainable growth, I am confident that our countries can team up to find innovative solutions.”
Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa met with the Portuguese Prime Minister for lunch at his residence.
The Grand Ducal couple then traveled to Cascais with the President of Portugal where they visited the “Portugal and Luxembourg – countries of hope in times of distress” exhibition which focused on the exile of the Grand Ducal Family and Luxembourgers in Portugal, fleeing Nazism at the start of the Second World War.
They also visited the Casa Santa Maria which is where the Grand Ducal Family stayed in 1940. A tribute was paid to Grand Duchess Charlotte.
Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa traveled back to Lisbon where Grand Duke Henri received a doctor honoris causa.
In the evening, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa hosted a return reception in honor of the Portuguese President.
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa wore her Alexander McQueen suit with her Prada pumps and her Alexander McQueen clutch. She paired the outfit with her Peruffo earrings, her Peruffo ring, and a new snake ring.
In the evening, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa wore a Maison Rabih Kayrouz purple gown.
