On Tuesday, Queen Silvia and Crown Princess Victoria attended several events in Helsingborg.

They first attended the seminar “The Dementia - Friendly City” which focused on how the city and society should be created for an aging population.

In her speech, Queen Silvia said: “There is a lot we can do to make life easier for those living with cognitive difficulties and their relatives. To make them feel safe. For them to manage their everyday lives. And for them to feel that there is room for them. It is a deeply human need, to feel "I belong". And it does not become less important when you get old, or sick. On the contrary.”

Afterward, Queen Silvia inaugurated the new senior housing Silviabo Skrabelycke which is built with a focus on smart solutions for both physical and mental well-being,

Queen Silvia also inaugurated the Garden of Memories and Knowledge in Husensjö Park. The park is designed especially for people with cognitive illness and it aims to stimulate the senses and evoke positive thoughts.

In a speech, Queen Silvia said : “We can all, each of us, contribute to a society that includes those living with dementia. If we dare to talk, even about what is difficult, then we can help break the stigma that exists around dementia. This is an important prerequisite for more people to be able to receive the right support and help. Both the person who is affected and those who are relatives.”

In the meantime, Crown Princess Victoria visited the environmental technology facility Recolab to learn more about the new “Three Pipes Out” initiative.

With this initiative, water and food waste are separated and sorted from each apartment through three waste pipes. Parts of the water and food waste are then converted into biogas and the energy is returned to the area.

Crown Princess Victoria also attended the UN conference H22 +50 Session which is a two-day event focusing on smart, sustainable and inclusive cities.
