King Felipe and Queen Letizia present 2019 National Sports Awards and 2020 National Extraordinary Sports Awards

On Monday, King Felipe and Queen Letizia presided over the ceremony of the 2019 National Sports Awards and 2020 National Extraordinary Sports Awards at the Royal Palace in Madrid.

The awards aim to recognize the people who have made an outstanding contribution to promoting sports either as individuals or as teams. The 2019 winners include Ricky Rubio, Claudia Galicia, Adiaratou Iglesias, Carmen Ramos, Alba Vázquez, and the men's and women's basketball teams among others.

This year, the 2020 National Extraordinary Sports Awards were also presented. As most 2020 sports competitions were canceled or postponed because of the pandemic, it was impossible to present the awards in their usual form. It was thus decided to recognize the athletes who were on the frontline. The winners are the canoeist and police officer Saul Craviotto, the athlete and doctor Susana Rodríguez, the lifesaving athlete and nurse, Isabel Costa, the canoeist and soldier Carlos Arévalo, and the Trail runner and Civil Guard, Luis Alberto Hernando.

Queen Letizia wore her Cherubina dress with her Felipe Varela pumps, her Aldao earrings, and her Karen Hallam ring.
