Queen Letizia's visit to New York City - Day 1
On Tuesday, Queen Letizia started a two-day visit to New York City to attend events within the framework of the United Nations General Assembly week.
Queen Letizia first took part in a meeting with UNICEF Mental Health experts in her role as UNICEF’s Advocate for Child and Adolescents Mental Health and as the Honorary President of UNICEF Spain.
Afterward, Queen Letizia met with youth leaders involved in Mental Health initiatives.
In the afternoon, Queen Letizia met with the Executive Director of UNICEF, Catherine Russell.
Queen Letizia and Catherine Russell then attended an event entitled "Promoting and protecting the mental health and psychosocial well-being of students in schools and learning environments" organized as part of the Summit on the Transformation of Education.
In her speech in English, which you can watch in full below, she said: “We are certainly going to hear many precise figures today. They are all terrifying and heartbreaking. Let me give you just one example: every 24 hours, 126 children and adolescents around the world take their own lives. We ought to stop for a minute and try to imagine the suffering and emotional distress that each of these children has felt up to the very moment they decided to give up their life.”
Queen Letizia, in her role as Special Ambassador of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for Nutrition, then had a meeting with the Director General of FAO, Qu Dongyu.
Queen Letizia concluded her day with a meeting with the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Ghebreyesus.
Queen Letizia first wore her Carolina Herrera dress with her Magrit shoes & clutch. She also wore her Bulgari earrings and her Karen Hallam ring.
Queen Letizia then changed into a new Zara x Narciso Rodriguez dress (with thanks to Nuria), her Zara cape, black pumps, and her Giorgio Armani bag. She paired the outfit with her Gold & Roses earrings and her Karen Hallam ring.
