How Much is it All Worth?! 2022
NOTE: This is a constantly updating post and subject to change as pieces are identified.
As is becoming our annual tradition, Heaven and I have sat down with our notes, spreadsheets, and calculators to bring you a comprehensive look at the value of the new clothing of 19 different royal ladies from around the world. We have done this since 2017 at UFO No More in an effort to provide a more comprehensive look into the statistics side of things that come with Royal Fashion Watching.
When we calculate costs we break down the numbers into 3 categories:
Pieces that remain UFO (Unidentified Fashion Objects)
Pieces that are identified and costs can be found
Pieces where the designer is known but the design is custom or a price us unknown
In very few instances, we will estimate a price of an article of clothing. This occurs when the piece is similar to a “base model” being sold and there are minor details changed (color, neckline, slits, etc).
Now onto the data! In total, these 19 royal ladies debuted clothing retailing over 2,364,416.75 € ($ 2,536,191.63 USD) during 2022 on clothing and accessories. This 2,364,416.75 € ($ 2,536,191.63 USD) takes into account the 1,359 pieces which were identified with costs or had costs estimated. Excluded from this tally were 445 pieces where the pieces remain UFO or are custom pieces. This year we saw 1,804 new pieces debuted and the amazing network of royal watchers managed to identify 88% of those new pieces.
We acknowledge that some of these tallies could be higher because a royal has more pieces identified than others - which is why we include the average price-per-piece graphic for you below. These numbers are calculated by dividing the cost of pieces we have prices for by the number of pieces we have prices for (Example: Even though Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden had 147 new pieces, we divided her total amount by 110 because that was how many pieces we had prices for). This gives us a better idea of her spending habits and trends.
In the top spot, Princess Charlene leads the pack with her 2022 wardrobe additions costing 739,541.52 € ($ 793,269.21 USD) for 65 pieces and debuting 105 pieces. Her average price-per-piece was 11,377.56 € ($ 12,204.14 USD), putting her in the top spot for highest average price-per-piece.
New to our tally this year, is Princess Olympia of Greece who lands in the #2 spot. Her 2022 wardrobe additions costing 228,930.52 € ($ 245,562.32 USD) for 37 pieces and debuting 51 pieces. Her average price-per-piece was 6,187.31 € ($ 6,636.82 USD), putting her also in the top 2 for highest average price-per-piece.
Following Princess Olympia on our list, is the Princess of Wales She debuted 204 new items in 2022 with 168 of those items being factored into her total of 217,310.46 € ($233,098.06 USD). With these 168 items, her average price-per-piece was 1,293.51 € ($1,387.48 USD).
Next on our list, is Princess Sofia of Sweden. She debuted 118 new items in 2022 with 96 of those items being factored into her total of 163,905.68 € ($ 175,813.43 USD). With these 96 items, her average price-per-piece was 1,707.35 € ($ 1,831.39 USD).
Following Princess Sofia on our list, is Grand Duchess Maria-Teresa. She debuted 149 new items in 2022 with 119 of those items being factored into her total of 134,493.00 € ($ 144,263.92 USD). With these 119 items, her average price-per-piece was 1,139.19 € ($ 1,212.30 USD).
Next on our list, is the Duchess of Sussex. She debuted 97 new items in 2022 with 70 of those items being factored into her total of 106,938.29 € ($ 114,707.36 USD). With these 70 items, her average price-per-piece was 1,527.69 € ($1,638.68 USD).
Following the Duchess of Sussex on our list, is Queen Mathilde. She debuted 114 new items in 2022 with 64 of those items being factored into her total of 103,468.92 € ($110,985.94 USD). With these 64 items, her average price-per-piece was 1,398.23 € ($1,499.81 USD).
Next on our list is Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. She debuted 129 new items in 2022 with 94 of those items being factored into her total of 92,245.28 € ($ 98,946.90 USD). With these 94 items, her average price-per-piece was 981.33 € ($ 1,052.62 USD).
Following Crown Princess Mary on our list, is the Countess of Wessex. She debuted 99 new items in 2022 with 84 of those items being factored into her total of 87,229.37 € ($ 93,641.67 USD). With these 84 items, her average price-per-piece was 1,039.28 € ($ 1,114.78 USD).
Next is Princess Beatrice of York. She debuted 55 new items in 2022 with 46 of those items being factored into her total of 87,255.70 € ($ 93,594.83 USD). With these 46 items, her average price-per-piece was 1,896.86 € ($2,034.67 USD).
Following Princess Beatrice on our list, is the Crown Princess Marie-Chantal, a new addition to our list. She debuted 49 new items in 2022 with 39 of those items being factored into her total of 75,897.37 € ($ 81,411.31 USD). With these 39 items, her average price-per-piece was 1,946.09 € ($ 2,087.47 USD).
Next on our list, is Queen Maxima of the Netherlands. She debuted 113 new items in 2022 with 74 of those items being factored into her total of 72,887.52 € ($ 78,182.80 USD). With these 74 items, her average price-per-piece was 984.97 € ($ 1,056.53 USD).
Next is Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway. She debuted 60 new items in 2022 with 44 of those items being factored into her total of 55,653 € ($ 59,696.19 USD). With these 44 items, her average price-per-piece was 1,264.84 € ($ 1,356.73 USD).
Following Crown Princess Mette-Marit on our list, is Queen Letizia of Spain. She debuted 129 new items in 2022 with 100 of those items being factored into her total of 53,919.38 € ($ 57,836.62 USD). With these 100 items, her average price-per-piece was 539.19 € ($ 578.36 USD) - making her one of the more frugal of the 19 women.
In the 16th spot is Princess Marie of Denmark. She debuted 73 new items in 2022 with 58 of those items being factored into her total of 49,873.83 € ($ 53,497.16 USD). With these 58 items, her average price-per-piece was 859.89 € ($ 922.36 USD).
Following Princess Marie on our list, is Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden. She debuted 147 new items in 2022 with 110 of those items being factored into her total of 35,482.99 € ($ 38,060.83 USD). With these 110 items, her average price-per-piece was 322.57 € ($ 346 USD)- making her the most frugal of these 19 royal ladies.
Next is a newcomer to the list- Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie of Luxembourg. She debuted 53 new items in 2022 with 28 of those items being factored into her total of 24,151.14 € ($ 25,905.72 USD). With these 28 items, her average price-per-piece was 862.54 € ($ 925.20 USD).
Following Princess Stephanie on our list, is Princess Eugenie of York. She debuted 22 new items in 2022 with 20 of those items being factored into her total of 18,318.88 € ($ 19,649.75 USD). With these 20 items, her average price-per-piece was 915.94 € ($ 981.62 USD).
In the final spot is Princess Madeleine of Sweden. She debuted 38 new items in 2022 with 33 of those items being factored into her total of 18,213.81 € ($ 19,537.04 USD). With these 33 items, her average price-per-piece was 551.93 € ($ 592.03 USD).

**At face value our calculations are what the royal’s clothes are worth, and in theory, what they would cost for you or I to buy. However, we are not saying that these calculations are what the royals ladies specifically spent, as we cannot verify that. We fully recognize that royals may receive discounts, shop sales, or be gifted some of these pieces. However, in order to stay objective, we made the decision to only use the full retail value of the pieces so that we do not show bias. These numbers should be viewed as the retail cost of their new pieces, rather than the exact number they personally spent.**
