How Much Is It All Worth?!

NOTE: This is a constantly updating post and subject to change as pieces are identified.

As is becoming our annual tradition, Heaven and I have sat down with our notes, spreadsheets, and calculators to bring you a comprehensive look at the value of the new clothing of 15 different royal ladies from around the world. We have done this since 2017 at UFO No More in an effort to provide a more comprehensive look into the statistics side of things that come with Royal Fashion Watching.

When we calculate costs we break down the numbers into 3 categories:

1. Pieces that remain UFO (Unidentified Fashion Objects)

2. Pieces that are identified and costs can be found

3. Pieces where the designer is known but the design is custom or a price us unknown

In very few instances, we will estimate a price of an article of clothing. This occurs when the piece is similar to a “base model” being sold and there are minor details changed (color, neckline, slits, etc). Out of 975 new pieces debuted this year by these ladies - only 35 of these pieces did we estimate a price. We mention this in an effort to convey the most transparent and accurate view of the costs.

Totals in Euros (Descending by 2021 Total)

Now onto the data! In total, these 15 royal ladies debuted clothing retailing over 614,721.70 € ($696,940.73 USD) during 2021 on clothing and accessories. This 614,721.70 € ($696,940.73 USD) takes into account the 723 pieces which were identified with costs or had costs estimated. Excluded from this tally were 267 pieces where the pieces remain UFO or are custom pieces.

We acknowledge that some of these tallies could be higher because a royal has more pieces identified than others - which is why we include the average price-per-piece graphic for you below. These numbers are calculated by dividing the cost of pieces we have prices for by the number of pieces we have prices for (Example: Even though Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden had 109 new pieces, we divided her total amount by 89 because that was how many pieces we had prices for). This gives us a better idea of her spending habits and trends.

Duchess of Cambridge

Number of New Pieces: 118

Number of Pieces Unidentified: 14

Average Price-per-Piece: 1,006.98 €

Grand Total: 102,711.64 €

In the top spot, the Duchess of Cambridge leads the pack with her 2021 wardrobe additions costing 102,711.64 € ($ 116,319.91 USD) for 102 pieces and debuting 118 pieces. Her average price-per-piece was 1,006.98 € ($ 1,140.39 USD), putting her in the top 4 for highest average price-per-piece. 

Duchess of Sussex

Number of New Pieces: 75

Number of Pieces Unidentified: 20

Average Price-per-Piece: 1,373.96 €

Grand Total: 74,193.62 €

Next up is the Duchess of Sussex with her 2021 wardrobe additions costing 74,193.62 € ($ 84,215.17 USD) for 54 pieces and debuting 75 pieces. Her average price-per-piece was 1,373.96 € ($ 1,559.54 USD), putting her in the top 2 for highest average price-per-piece. 

Queen Maxima

Number of New Pieces: 97

Number of Pieces Unidentified: 25

Average Price-per-Piece: 1,215.33 €

Grand Total: 61,981.77 €

Following the Duchess of Sussex on our list, is Queen Maxima of the Netherlands. She debuted 97 new items in 2021 with 51 of those items being factored into her total of 61,981.77 € ($70,353.83 USD). With these 51 items, her average price-per-piece was 1,215.33 € ($1,379.49 USD).

Crown Princess Mary

Number of New Pieces: 97

Number of Pieces Unidentified: 31

Average Price-per-Piece: 859.65 €

Grand Total: 50,719.59 €

Next on our list, is Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. She debuted 97 new items in 2021 with 59 of those items being factored into her total of 50,719.59 € ($ 57,570.44 USD). Crown Princess Victoria

Following Crown Princess Mary on our list, is Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden. She debuted 109 new items in 2021 with 89 of those items being factored into her total of 50,570.52 € ($ 57,401.23 USD). With these 89 items, her average price-per-piece was 568.21 € ($ 644.96 USD).

Queen Mathilde

Number of New Pieces: 80

Number of Pieces Unidentified: 8

Average Price-per-Piece: 970.21€

Grand Total: 50,450.68 €

Next, making her debut to our list is Queen Mathilde of Belgium. She debuted 80 new items in 2021 with 52 of those items being factored into her total of 50,450.68 € ($ 57,142.00 USD). With these 52 items, her average price-per-piece was 970.21 € ($ 1,098.89 USD).

Countess of Wessex

Number of New Pieces: 64

Number of Pieces Unidentified: 10

Average Price-per-Piece: 865.32 €

Following Queen Mathilde on our list, is the Countess of Wessex. She debuted 64 new items in 2021 with 53 of those items being factored into her total of 45,862.11 € ($ 51,944.85 USD). With these 89 items, her average price-per-piece was 865.32 € ($ 980.09 USD).

Princess Sofia

Number of New Pieces: 56

Number of Pieces Unidentified: 7

Average Price-per-Piece: 996.84 €

Next on our list, is Princess Sofia of Sweden. She debuted 56 new items in 2021 with 45 of those items being factored into her total of 44,857.82 € ($ 50,807.36 USD). With these 45 items, her average price-per-piece was 996.84 € ($ 1,129.05 USD).

Princess Eugenie

Number of New Pieces: 34

Number of Pieces Unidentified: 7

Average Price-per-Piece: 936.91 €

Following Princess Sofia on our list, is Princess Eugenie of York. She debuted 34 new items in 2021 with 27 of those items being factored into her total of 25,296.48 € ($ 28,651.58 USD). With these 27 items, her average price-per-piece was 936.91 € ($ 1,061.17 USD).

Crown Princess Mette Marit

Number of New Pieces: 44

Number of Pieces Unidentified: 11

Average Price-per-Piece: 734.90 €

Next up on our list, is Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway. She debuted 44 new items in 2021 with 33 of those items being factored into her total of 24,251.67 € ($ 27,468.19 USD). With these 33 items, her average price-per-piece was 734.90 € ($ 832.37 USD).

Queen Letizia

Number of New Pieces: 111

Number of Pieces Unidentified: 25

Average Price-per-Piece: 301.32 €

Grand Total: 21,694.94 €

Following Crown Princess Mette-Marit on our list, is Queen Letizia of Spain. She debuted 111 new items in 2021 with 72 of those items being factored into her total of 21,694.94 € ($ 24,697.63 USD). With these 72 items, her average price-per-piece was 301.32 € ($ 343.02 USD) - making her the most frugal of the 15 women.

Princess Charlene

Number of New Pieces: 16

Number of Pieces Unidentified: 0

Average Price-per-Piece: 1,990.30 €

Grand Total: 19,902.96 €

Next is Princess Charlene of Monaco. She debuted 16 new items in 2021 with 10 of those items being factored into her total of 19,902.96 € ($ 22,657.63 USD). With these 10 items, her average price-per-piece was 1,990.30 € ($ 2,265.77 USD) - putting her at the top of the price-per-piece average tally.

Princess Madeleine

Number of New Pieces: 25

Number of Pieces Unidentified: 4

Average Price-per-Piece: 896.56 €

Grand Total: 17,931.14 €

In the 13th spot is Princess Madeleine of Sweden. She debuted 25 new items in 2021 with 20 of those items being factored into her total of 17,931.14 € ($ 20,412.90 USD). With these 20 items, her average price-per-piece was 896.56 € ($ 1,020.65 USD).

Princess Beatrice

Number of New Pieces: 34

Number of Pieces Unidentified: 3

Average Price-per-Piece: 436.16 €

Grand Total: 13,520.85 €

Next is Princess Beatrice of York. She debuted 34 new items in 2021 with 31 of those items being factored into her total of 13,520.85 € ($ 15,392.20 USD). With these 31 items, her average price-per-piece was 436.16 € ($ 496.53 USD).

Princess Marie

Number of New Pieces: 35

Number of Pieces Unidentified: 7

Average Price-per-Piece: 403.28 €

Grand Total: 10,888.51 €

In the final spot is Princess Marie of Denmark. She debuted 35 new items in 2021 with 27 of those items being factored into her total of 10,888.51 € ($ 12,395.53 USD). We fully recognize that royals may receive discounts, shop sales, or be gifted some of these pieces. However, in order to stay objective, we made the decision to only use the full retail value of the pieces so that we do not show bias. These numbers should be viewed as the retail cost of their new pieces, rather than the exact number they personally spent.**
