Queen Silvia and Princess Madeleine attend 'Placing Child Protection at the Core of Sustainable Travel and Tourism' UN Meeting
On Monday, Queen Silvia and Princess Madeleine attended the UN High-Level Event 'Placing Child Protection at the Core of Sustainable Travel and Tourism' at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. The event was hosted by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children, the World Childhood Foundation, and the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the United Nations.
In her keynote speech, Queen Silvia said: “As travel increases again after the pandemic, we have an opportunity to set things right. To shape new patterns and behaviors that keep children safe. The travel sector reaches people in so many ways, from major online platforms to the remote streets on the other side of the globe. This gives many opportunities to be the eyes and ears on the ground and it carries an obligation to ensure child safeguarding mechanism. […] Collectively, we need to do more. We need to agree on high standards and goals and it needs to be implemented to make a real difference on the ground. Together we need to make sure that what is discussed and agreed by the international community in rooms like this, at the United Nations, and by powerful leaders actually reaches all the way to the individual child at risk.”
Following the event, Princess Madeleine went to lunch with Karini Gustfason-Teixeira who is a friend and a member of the World Childhood Foundation’s Boards of Directors.
Queen Silvia wore her Georg et Arend suit with her Cartier and Engelbert bracelet.
Princess Madeleine wore a Jonathan Simkhai dress with a Demellier bag and her Ebba Brahe necklace.
For lunch, Princess Madeleine wore her Anine Bing jacket with black trousers, Chanel flats, and a Chanel bag.
