In his speech, King Carl Gustaf said: “We are standing here on St. Erik's square, probably a medieval trading place from the beginning and now framed by buildings from bygone times. And that's the way it is, we live our modern lives but surrounded by history. You have to know and respect your history in order to understand your present, but also to be able to look forward. I want to say a big and warm thank you to all of you who gathered today to celebrate with us. The Queen and I are very pleased to see you all here!”
