King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia visit Västerbotten County
On Thursday, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia visited Västerbotten County as part of King Carl-Gustaf’s Jubilee celebrations.
They first visited the Västerbotten museum, where they were shown the exhibition '“How many trees are there in the forest?” and also received information about how Storm Hans hit Västerbotten's forests.
King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia then traveled in a horse-drawn cortege to Rådhustorget via Storgatan, Östra kyrkogatan, Västra Norrlandsgatan, Västra Esplanaden and Storgatan.
The Royal Couple then took part in a jubilee event with performances by the Kulturskolan's Tonmix children's choir, Nathalie Lindqvist, and Jörgen Stenberg.
In his speech, King Carl Gustaf said: “It is 500 years since Gustaf Vasa was elected king and Sweden became independent. Of course, Sweden as a nation existed before 1523, and the borders have been moved many times. But the foundation for our free, peaceful, and modern Sweden was laid then. What really holds a country together? Many things, of course, and you can have different opinions about what is important. But I think something central is that we trust each other and help each other to find solutions to common challenges. And that we remember history together, like today.”
The Royal Couple then attended an official lunch hosted by the Governor at his residence.
King Carl Gustaf and Quen Silvia concluded their visit by planting an Ornäs birch and unveiling a plaque commemorating the jubilee in the residence’s park.
Queen Silvia wore a suit with her Vesna W blouse, her Hermes bag, and her Cartier bracelet.
