King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima visit the Wadden Islands - Day 2
On Wednesday, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima continued their regional visit to the Wadden Islands.
They first visited the Willem Barentsz Maritime Institute on Terschelling where they learned more about the institute's education and various ship simulators. They also met with the Wadden Area Environmental Council.
Afterward, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima traveled to Ameland. Upon their arrival at the ferry terminal, they discussed the accessibility of the island as an increasing dredging effort is required to keep the fairway navigable, which puts increasing pressure on nature.
The Royal Couple then met with seven nature managers to learn more about conservation work on the island before meeting with representatives of the tourism sector to hear about the consequences of the growing number of tourists on the island.
On Schiermonnikoog, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima first met seven farmers to talk about the dairy cooperative that they started and which is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality. They also met with health professionals at an ambulance station to discuss healthcare on the island.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima also visited the monastery on Schiermonnikoog where they met the five monks currently still living in the monastery. The Royal Couple concluded their regional visit with a tour of the only supermarket on the island.
Queen Maxima wore her Natan coat with her Zara suit, her Carlend Copenhagen clutch, and her Laura Noetinger headpiece.
