King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima visit Drenthe province
On Tuesday, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima paid a regional visit to Drenthe province.
In the municipality of Noordenveld, they visited the Prison Museum in Veenhuizen. In the 19th century, Veenhuizen was one of the seven Colonies of Benevolence, where poor families and orphans were housed to build a new life. Veenhuizen now holds UNESCO World Heritage status.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima then visited the Esserheem correctional facility where they met inmates who work in the wood and metal workshops and are undergoing training, as well as incarcerated fathers who follow a special program to maintain the best possible bond with their children.
The Royal Couple also visited a dairy farm which has an approach to reduce nitrogen emissions and improve water quality.
Afterward, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima visited Zeijen village to meet with villagers who are working to keep the village lively and attractive.
The Royal Couple then went to Assen where they heard more about the Assen Safety Campus which aims They also visited the youth theatre workshop Garage TDI where they watched a performance and met with the actors to discuss the importance of youth theatre. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima concluded their visit at the Nijsinghhuis at De Buitenplaats in Eelde, part of the Drents Museum. They met with volunteers dedicated to preserving this former town hall, where heritage, art, and greenery come together.
Queen Maxima wore a Natan Couture dress with her Natan pumps, her Santesteban clutch, and her Fabienne Delvigne hat.
On Wednesday, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie attended a Flag Day reception for Danish and international Veterans at the Danish Embassy in Washington D.C.
