Queen Mary marks 75th anniversary of the Home Guard
On Wednesday, Queen Mary attended the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Home Guard.
In her speech, she said: “Many become volunteers in the Home Guard to make an effort, but end up getting a lot themselves. I remember that from my own time in the Home Guard. The education challenged and developed me on many parameters. My prerequisites were perhaps a little different from most, yet I quickly felt like part of a dedicated and competent community. We had chosen to be together for something important. For the Home Guard, a voluntary preparedness in peacetime and a preparedness with an obligation to meet in wartime - in other words, a serious option. That combination creates a very special spirit and some rarely strong bonds. “
Queen Mary wore her Fonnesbech coat with her Valentino boots and her Bonpoint hat.
