Regal Review: Queen Letizia's Official Visit to Portugal
On November 7th, Queen Letizia made her first solo trip to Portugal as Queen of Spain as she spent the day in Moita. She first visited the “Casa dos Marcos", a care centre for people suffering from rare diseases and their families. She also held a meeting with representatives of the Ibero-American Alliance for Rare Diseases (ALIBER).
Afterward, Queen Letizia attended the closing ceremony of the 2nd Ibero-American Congress on Rare Diseases. In her speech, she said: “ Those of us who feel committed to you share the hope that the mobilization of so many medical and research professionals, and I do not forget the professionals in the social and multidisciplinary care field, can improve the quality of life of patients and their families. In this challenge, only scientific research can make us progress. For this reason, and I always insist on this, the promotion and support - from all institutions of any nature - of research is essential. And it is an inalienable duty. I would like to thank the valuable work done by rare disease associations. They are the ones who, in the first instance, welcome and care for the families who come to us seeking answers and help. “
Queen Letizia also visited the exhibition “A Shared History. Treasures of the Royal Palaces of Spain” at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon. The exhibition covers the relations between Spain and Portugal, as well as those of their monarchs and court figures, over a period of 350 years.
Queen Letizia wore a Felipe Varela red suit with her Uterque animal print blouse. She paired the outfit with her Magrit red pumps and a Uterque floral appliqué clutch.
