Regal Review: Queen Letizia's Official Visit to Austria
On October 27th, 2014, Queen Letizia made a day trip to Vienna, Austria, her first official solo trip abroad as Queen of Spain. Queen Letizia first attended an official luncheon hosted by the President of Austria Heinz Fischer, and his wife, Margit Fischer, at the Hofburg Presidential Palace.
In the evening, Queen Letizia officially opened the ‘Velásquez’ exhibition in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. The exhibition is the first dedicated to the Sevillian painter to be held in a German-speaking country.
Queen Letizia toured the exhibition before attending the opening ceremony during which she made a speech. She said: “Velázquez is a painter from the Baroque period but, in reality, he is much more: a precursor of the contemporaneity that all the great masters of painting later interpreted, Velázquez brings together in his figure the excellence and genius of a man who achieved perfection in his work. Nothing new can be said about the mastery of his technique, about his command of colour, light, perspective or composition. Manet said that he was “the painter of painters”. We now have the opportunity, the privilege, to contemplate in this great exhibition that artistic genius that was captured in so many canvases. Velázquez's view of his time is now combined with ours. Other times and other circumstances. But surely the same emotions.”
Queen Letizia fist wore her Felipe Varela tweed suit with her Magrit pumps and her Adolfo Dominguez bag.
Queen Letizia then wore a Hugo Boss black blazer with a Hugo Boss burgundy leather dress. She paired the outfit with her Magrit burgundy pumps and her Magrit burgundy clutch.
