The Duchess of Edinburgh visits Tanzania - Day 1

On Tuesday, the Duchess of Edinburgh started an official visit to Tanzania in her role as Global Ambassador of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness. She first met with the British High Commission staff to hear about their work furthering the UK-Tanzania partnership.

Afterward, the Duchess of Edinburgh visited the Magomeni Health Centre in Dar es Salaam to learn more about their Family Planning services and their Center for Reproductive Health services for young people.

The Duchess of Edinburgh then attended a Roundtable Discussion on Neglected Tropical Diseases before visiting the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit.

In the evening, the Duchess of Edinburgh attended a reception given by the British High Commissioner celebrating health collaborations. She also read a message from King Charles: “As Patron of one of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness’s members, ‘Sightsavers’, and knowing that The Duchess of Edinburgh is with you today in Tanzania, I particularly wanted you all to know how full of admiration and gratitude I am for your passion and devoted efforts in treating and preventing neglected tropical diseases, especially trachoma. Your constant dedication and hard work will lead us to a world where inclusion and equality can be realised across our Commonwealth.”
